WHAT IS THE FFIRC PANEL?
The FFIRC is an acronym for the Fan Fiction Internet Relay Chat Panel, founded by GT & TJ.

WHAT IS IT FOR?
It exists for the promotion of fanfiction writers: To give them a voice that can be heard and answered where normally it couldn't be.

WHAT CAN IT DO FOR ME?
Depending on the amount of participation, it can review your fics or give you a way to give better C&C to those stories you like. You can also hear ideas exchanged or inspiration tossed around.

WHAT IS A QUEUE?
The QUEUE is the order in which we review fics on Sunday evening. You send your fic to the Mailing Linst and it will be queued in line by me. The queue operates on a first come first serve basis, except where I decided.

I CAN'T USE IRC. CAN I STILL TAKE PART?
If you can't use IRC or don't know how, we'll show you. For the best instructions, send email to Todd Hill and listen carefully.

We also have a Java applet many can load on-the-fly with a browser.

WHERE AND WHEN IS THE PANEL HELD?
Our server is BACHMAN.NEWBERRY.EDU, using port #6667. The reviews are held on channel #fanfic. We will meet here on Sunday afternoons, beginning at 3:00 pm EDT. Don't worry if you can't make it then; we don't start the reviews until about 7 pm. The ROUND TABLE is first, followed by a short dinner break. However, arriving early ensures that you won't miss anything.

server: bachman.newberry.edu 6667

We Are Guests On This Server. We do not exclusively own it.

WHAT IS THE ROUND TABLE?
The Round Table is the discussion of our current and upcoming works. We take turns briefly going over what we've been working on or have released during the past week, and what we expect to be working on in the near future. Ideas may be tossed around here as well, but depending on how many people are meeting, we may have to cut time short to make sure everyone gets a turn. Please bear this in mind.

HOW DO I GET OPs?
You don't. Only the channel maintainers will have ops, to prevent confusion and to keep a reasonable level of order in the channel for the duration of the ROUND TABLE and the fic reviews. Those with OPs are my Channel Attendants, listed on the Member's Directory page.

HOW DO I BECOME A MEMBER?
You web-browse to the page below, and follow the directions. Alternatively, you can send a message with "subscribe" in the body to the address below it. This allows you to become a member. Full membership requires you join the channel and Identify with the Bot maintaining it. More details <HERE>.

WHAT DOES BEING A MEMBER DO FOR ME?
It gives you access to review the content of the Queue and to have your fic placed in the Queue. It also gives you one credit, free, for use on your own fiction. (Though we aren't using the credits system, we -are- counting.)

HOW DO I GET MY STORY REVIEWED?
You must have a credit. If you have a credit, send your story (100K or less, please!) to the mailing list and ask to have it reviewed. Please remember to include the following:

* TITLE:
* SERIES: (is it a one-shot fic or part of a series?)
* CHAPTER/PART/ACT #:
* ANIME SERIES: (Ranma, BGC, crossover, etc.)
* LENGTH, IN KILOBYTES:
* TYPE/GENRE: (comedy, romance, dark, x-over, etc.)
* EMAIL ADDRESS:
* IRC NICKNAME: (or FFML handle; something we can identify you by if you are planning to show up at the panel.)

Once you fill that out, slap it on the front of your fiction and send it to the address below. REMINDER: there is a 100k cap on stories, remember that headers are a couple kilos. Otherwise, our poor reviewers would quickly become overwhelmed... @_@

ffirc@newberry.edu

After that, we will overlook them in the List, then QUEUE them and send them out on THURSDAYS. Fics recieved on Thursday will be reviewed that following SUNDAY.

HOW DO I OBTAIN A CREDIT?
You can obtain a credit by doing the following:

* Becoming a member -- 1 free credit
* Showing up on Sunday for reviews and giving criticism -- 1 credit per story
* Emailing C&C to a story in the queue -- 1 credit (for obvious reasons, these emails must be sent through us, the Mailing List)
* Referring someone to become a member -- 1 credit

Any other REAL ideas for credit earning are welcome.

I DON'T WANT TO USE IRC, BUT CAN I STILL GET MY FIC REVIEWED?
If you can't or won't use IRC, you still must have a credit to get it reviewed in the panel meeting. You may send C&C of a fic in the queue to us for a credit. You may ask for a list of what fics are reviewable, i.e. the fics in the queue, at any time, by sending email to me, who is also the Archive Manager.

ryougaecho@abraxis.com

WHAT IF I CAN'T MAKE IT ON MY DAY FOR MY FIC?
We keep logs and will send email C&C if you cannot make it, upon your request. Guess what? I also maintain the logs, with help from Todd.

ryougaecho@abraxis.com

HOW DO I KNOW WHAT'S GOING TO BE REVIEWED? NEW
Being a member means you are part of the mailing list. We will send members what is in the queue through the mailing list on THURSDAYS, letting them know what fics are coming up. If you are not a member, then become one! If you've just joined and want to know what's already in the Queue, send a message to the address below, and we'll send you the fics.

WHAT KIND OF C&C DO I NEED TO PROVIDE?
That's up to you. Remember, though, that the people you are providing C&C to are the same ones who will be reading your fics when they come up. If you put a lot of thought and effort into reviewing others' fics, the others will remember it and do the same for you. If you don't, they'll remember and treat you accordingly.

MUST I READ FICS IN SERIES/GENRES THAT I DON'T LIKE?
No. You choose which fics you wish to read and comment on. (But if there is a series you don't like dominating the panel, you may have to give C&C on it if you want to receive a credit.) We also hope that we can broaden the tastes of our members.

WHY IS EVERYONE IN THE CHANNEL ANGRY AT ME?
You probably are distracting to the efforts at hand, or worse. You gave poor C&C, or you idled too long. If you come to the panel, plan on participating. That means knowing what stories are going to be reviewed ahead of time, and putting some effort into giving a worthwhile review.

I DIDN'T GET A GOOD REVIEW, I WANT MY CREDIT BACK FOR ANOTHER STORY.
We hold all rights to deem where a credit may be refunded. We have the final say in all matters regarding credits.

WHAT DOES ALL THIS STUFF ABOUT CREDITS BOIL DOWN TO?
The important thing for you to understand is: providing C&C for other people's fics in the queue will allow you to get your own fics into the queue so that other people will C&C them.
